The bike has 14,4xx miles, oil and coolant were changed about 600 miles ago, and mechanically runs well. The throttle is a bit hesitant until it warms up, but it's not much of an issue as you should let bikes warm up completely first anyways. I put 3500 miles on the bike and the only problem I had was a leak in the radiator due to a rock getting kicked up from the road. The radiator has since been replaced. The bike has a clear PA title (I'm out of state), and the only thing extra that the bike will require is a VA inspection which it should pass no problem.

The bad: The bike was laid down by the previous owner on the right side, so there is some light rash on the right side fairings and right muffler. The front tire is probably going to need replacing in another 1000 miles or so (rear has plenty of tread left, a new front will be roughly $90-$110).

If you're looking for a bike to learn on, this is generally considered the best bike. The bike has very forgiving steering geometry (very easy to control in low speed maneuvering), lightweight at only roughly 300 lbs, forgiving power delivery (only a 250cc but will still do 100 mph if you want to, and accelerates faster than most cars on the road still), cheap to own and operate (70mpg, cheap tires, very cheap insurance as I'm only paying $200/year, and the bike has been in production from '88-'07 so parts are everywhere).

good news:

is in complete & fairly good shape. it ran with spray start when I bought it & I remember the compression being okay. front brakes work; rotors look okay; tires were new just before I bought it; much of it looks clean; 24k on the speedo & that sounds believable, fairing (windjammer?) in good shape, seats in surprisingly good shape. front forks look good. hondaline bags with fixable scuffs. good case guards, mufflers.

bad news:

bill of sale. I bought from a po that bought it from the licensed owner in N Carolina. I have the p owner's registration & I suspect he's findable. the tank looks scruffy & probably needs to be repaired or replaced. battery is probably dead. side covers scruffy. doubtless needs carb work.

* One small scuff on left side as the result of a no-speed sidewalk tipover... a week before I installed the Givi bars.

* Clear Alternatives lens on taillight; clear lenses on all four signal lights. All stock lenses and bulbs are on hand.
* Service records and invoices are on hand -- I'll PDF them and put 'em on a CD for the buyer.
* Garage kept; never intentionally ridden in the rain.
* Front tire original; rear is nearly new. I installed it this past spring, following the very unintended insertion of a roofing nail into the original.

The first bike is a Puch Maxi that was rebuilt about 6 months ago but has sat since, incomplete. It really just needs the cables re-done and some other minor tinkering. The bike has a good rebuilt e50 with a bing 14 carb, high flow air filter, BRAND NEW Boss pipe, and tons of other goodies (cafe bars, 1.5 seat, etc). It has all new cables, but I definitely did not install them correctly. Oh, and the e50 has a fresh alukit 60cc kit! Comes with original head too. OH and the tires are brand new on a set of real nice wide spokes!

The second bike is a Minarelli Baretta. The bike is all original and complete, just waiting to be turned into a rad racer.

Both bikes turn over fine but neither currently run. I am a grad student at VT and no longer have time for my peds...and I hate to watch them sit. If you buy this week, I will throw in a bunch of extra parts including forks, throttle stuffs, a swingarm, side covers, and all kinds of goodies! The pros:
-This bike is in excellent running condition. I have used it every day, all year for the past three years and put 25,000 miles on it. I have never had a single problem with it, other than the routine maintenance described below. It starts every time, in all conditions. It runs perfectly on short trips, or for the multiple long trips I've taken to Detroit, Ottawa, and the Outer banks. I couldn't be describing a more reliable machine. It has never been stored, and never dropped hard (i.e. no bent forks, no wobbles). It is very clean, with most of the chrome and metal in excellent shape, and although some rust and scuffs can be spotted if you give it a good look over, I regularly get compliments on how the bike looks. Nobody believes it's a 1991.
-I have meticulously maintained this bike. I've done the following:
-Changed the oil every 3,000 miles, including at 51,000 miles.
-Lubed the chain every 100-500 miles.
-Replaced the front tire (Bridgestone Spitfire) last week at 51,350 miles (I had replaced it earlier, but the tire was faulty and it was replaced under warranty)
-Replaced air filter in Sept 09 at 50,500 miles
-Replaced both Air filters in March 09 at 45,000 miles
-Replaced spark plugs in March 09 at 45,000 miles (Might do this again this week)
-Replaced rear tire in October 08 at 43,500 miles
-Replaced chain and sprockets in October 08 at 43,500 miles (Gold chain, extra tooth on the rear sprocket to increase fuel economy)
-Replaced battery in June 08 at 40,500 miles
-Re-upholstered the vinyl seat cover in March 08 at 39,000 miles (still in mint condition)
-Replaced front brake pads in September 07 at 36,750 miles
-Replaced Right front fork seal in April 06 at 27,000 miles (this is the only non-routine maintenance I've had to do on the bike in 3.5+ years and 25,000 miles).

The cons:
-51,500 miles and rising
-Some of the paint is faded on the plastic paneling, particularly where the saddlebags rested
-Some small rusty scrapes from ancient laydowns, but nothing major and the tank is unscathed.
-The upholstery on the seat back on the sissy bar needs to be repaired.

The bike includes
-Center stand (newer Nighthawks do not include this)
-Wind screen
-Sissy bar, including seat and luggage rack
-throttle rocker
-saddle bags (though I hesitate to include these as a bonus- the zipper is broken on one, and both have holes)
-engine guard
-motorcycle cover

Nighthawk information:
Driven by an air-cooled 750cc inline four engine, 75 hp with 46 lbs torque, 45-50 mpg With 4.8 gal fuel tank. 120+ mph top speed. double-cradle frame, single disk front and drum rear brake. Chain drive. Hydraulic valve adjusters for zero-maintenance valves. Small oil cooler supplements air cooling. Cast aluminum Wheels. More comfortable than a sport bike, faster and more fun than a cruiser.

I'm not set on selling this bike. I'm moving to Canada at the end of the year and am willing to bring it with me, but I'll sell it and avoid the hassle if I can get a good price. I'm asking $2250 despite the mileage because of the history and reliability that come with this bike, but I am open to other offers.
