Micro Processor Technician (Blacksburg, SC)
The Micro Processor Technician works in an industrial setting maintaining chemical processing and utility equipment. He/she will coordinate repairs and plan improvements to machinery, electrical, instrumentation, and control equipment. Associate works directly with the Engineering Services (ESD) Engineer and ESD Leader. Associate interfaces and works effectively with maintenance personnel and other cross-functional departments including but not limited to; Operations, Health / Safety /Environmental, Engineering, and supply chain personnel. Employees must exercise principles of safety, environmental management, quality management, and good housekeeping in all aspects of the job and must inform supervision of any unsafe practices or conditions.
•Requires a maintenance background and familiarity with plant equipment (e.g. plant electrical, instrument, HVAC, communications, emissions monitoring equipment, weighing systems, and process control systems. Skills include knowledge of process equipment, electronics, electricity, computer logic, circuits, pneumatics, and mechanics).
•Knowledge of process equipment and spare parts requirements to perform repairs.
•Working knowledge of maintenance repair procedures, and basic knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
•Demonstrated ability with desktop computer software and be proficient at learning new software and handheld device interface.
•Demonstrated strong initiative and attention to detail, have good communication and interpersonal skills for working with people of varied experience and backgrounds including outside suppliers. Must have aptitude for reading drawings and equipment specifications.
•Problem solving and teamwork skills, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, persistence in following tasks through to completion, initiative to identify and implement work process improvements, and must be able to work with minimum supervision or direction.
•Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces and at heights to make repairs on equipment.
Duties and responsibilities:
•Inspect, maintain and troubleshoot chemical, electrical, control and auxiliary equipment which includes: pneumatic, electrical, electronic and PLC (Siemens and Modicon preferred) based prime mover control systems, UPS Systems, Medium voltage electrical distribution and motor control equipment.
•Plant auxiliary equipment such as data acquisition and compressed air systems
•Variable speed drives
•Relay and ladder logic knowledge
•Demonstrated ability to use amprobes, test meters, low and high voltage meter, oscilloscope, and other electronic test equipment
The ideal candidate will possess a high school or equivalent education, plus a two-year Associate Degree in an appropriate technical field or equivalent training. Two to Five years of work experience applicable to this discipline is preferred.
Pay Rate: $21.36 - $25.18, dependent upon demonstrated skills and education
