Are you a current or former resident of Sunset Village in Radford? Do you live in one of the original homes built in the early 1940s as part of the Farm Security Administration (FSA) defense housing project?
I am a researcher currently studying the historical impact of the Radford Arsenal on our local community. I am specifically interested in the "wartime housing" surge that occurred when the Arsenal (then the Radford Ordnance Works) was first constructed.
The homes in Sunset Village represent a unique chapter in Radford’s history—built rapidly to accommodate the massive migration of workers who arrived to support the war effort. I am looking to interview individuals who can share:
Personal or Family History: Stories of moving into Sunset Village during or shortly after the WWII era.
Neighborhood Evolution: How the community has changed since the 1940s.
The Arsenal Connection: Memories of how the plant’s presence shaped daily life, the local economy, or the physical landscape of the neighborhood.
Interview Details:
Duration: Approximately 30–60 minutes.
Format: In-person (at a local coffee shop or public library) or via phone/Zoom—whatever is most comfortable for you.
If you have a story to share or know someone who does, I would love to hear from you. Help me preserve the history of this unique Radford neighborhood!
I am happy to compensate you for your time with $50
