Dell Compellent (Xyratex) HB-1235 disk shelf for sale.
Works great with SAS, some caveats for SATA drives (more below)!
Supports 12x3.5" drives, and includes all 12 caddies (no screws). The caddies are the IBM variant, but work fine in this unit - Xyratex manufacturers the actual shelves for many manufacturers, so the caddies are cross compatible between them.
Unit has dual power supplies and dual controllers. Controllers have SFF-8088 ports for connection back to a computer/server and for daisy chaining to multiple shelves if desired.
SAS drives will work with no issues in this shelf.
SATA drives do work as well with some caveats - the unit shows a fault on the left ear and an orange light when SATA drives are used and connected directly the backplane, and emits an audible alarm (high pitched beep). The beep can be silenced by pressing the button the left ear, but will sound again if a new SATA drive is inserted or when the unit is power cycled. The left ear has a speaker that can be removed to permanently disable the alarm noise (I can remove the speaker before we meet up if you would like). Other than the alarm and warning lights, SATA drives do work fine in the unit. If you can procure interposers for the drives, that would allow SATA drives to work with no alarms or warning lights and no modification to the unit.
Includes rails, all 12 drive caddies, SFF-8088 SAS cable, and 2 power cables. You will need a RAID card or HBA to connect this disk shelf to your computer/server.
I have a total of 5 of these, all identically configured.
Price is $200 for a single unit, or will do $175 each if buying more than one. Prices are fairly firm, but will consider offers for multiple units or with fewer caddies.
Must meet at the Liberty gas station near Corning in Christiansburg (3250 N. Franklin St, Christiansburg, VA 24073). Cash only.
